JOPLIN, Mo. — An everyday technological item could potentially grant cybercriminals entry into your home or office.
According to experts from Stronghold Data, although printers are not as high on the priority list as laptops or PCs, they can still serve as an entry point into your network.
The strongholds’ Chief Operating Officer, Joe Thomas, suggests that a method to safeguard against such issues is conducting a risk evaluation.
He additionally mentions that when your printer notifies you about a required update, it’s crucial to ensure that it gets installed.
“Often, the issue arises because the printer is outdated and requires firmware updates. However, when these printers become too old, no further updates may be available, making it impossible for them to meet contemporary standards,” explained Thomas.
Thomas mentions that once a printer becomes too outdated, updates are no longer provided — at which point, replacement is the sole solution.
