Miller Park Zoo to host event to raise awareness on endangered species

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — On May 17, the Miller Park Zoo will organize an event aimed at increasing public knowledge about endangered species.

According to Silvia Schuh, the event coordinator at Miller Park Zoo, various events will take place for Endangered Species Day.

An Endangered Species Chalk Art Contest is scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., organized in collaboration with the Endangered Species Coalition.

Individuals from various age groups can reach out to Schuh at [email protected] to join the competition. The Zoo will supply the entrants with necessary resources, and participating comes without any cost.

The zoo will host an Endangered Species Day Scavenger Hunt aimed at educating visitors about their initiatives to protect threatened and endangered animals. According to Schuh, participants who finish the scavenger hunt will have the chance to receive a modest reward.

Endangered Species Day allows us to gain deeper knowledge about wildlife and the species threatened with extinction, and encourages us to take significant steps toward their protection,” stated Silvia Schuh, Event Organizer at Miller Park Zoo. “A crucial method to create impact is through understanding the everyday struggles faced by these creatures.
