According to Superintendent Christopher Campbell, this is known as the “Chromebook Challenge,”
And it motivates students to insert pencil leads, paperclips, or pushpins into Chromebook ports.

The purpose is to make the device emit smoke or fail to function properly.

“I just think that where there is a will, there is a way, and TikTok spreads a lot of information pretty quickly, and obviously it’s a concern, but hopefully they’re going to pay attention, and when the Chromebooks start smoking somebody reports it,” one parent tells Boston 25 News.

“Inserting metal or other foreign objects into electronic devices can lead to electrical shock, fire, or even small explosions,” the letter read. “Several incidents have already been reported.”

Mom and dad were advised to discuss with their children the significance of using technology responsibly.

“We acknowledge the significant impact of social media and are dedicated to collaborating with families to increase understanding and avoid potential damage,” wrote Superintendent Campbell.

The Plymouth Police Department indicates that they have not received any reports as of now.
