Have you ever wished to gather additional details about an item displayed on your smartphone screen? The Circle to Search function offered by Google serves this purpose effectively. It stands as one of the most practical applications of artificial intelligence we have encountered; however, it may still require some refinements. As it was introduced just recently, enhancements might indeed prove beneficial. And that seems to align with Google’s current efforts. A recent article from Android Authority reveals that Google is currently experimenting with various designs for the Circle to Search tool.
Two potential Circle to Search configurations
The report indicates that Google is experimenting with two designs for integrating Circle into Search. User @brokenthrone posted an image of one such design within a Telegram community. This particular layout replaces the elongated Google search bar with a shorter, more streamlined rectangular box featuring rounded edges.
There are buttons and text, but unlike the current version, there are no visual separators, giving it a more seamless look. There is also a light and a dark version. As for the other layout, Google is keeping the long search bar but splitting it up into two rows instead of a single row. The top row has the search bar, and the bottom row houses the “Song search” and “Translate” buttons.
The recently introduced Circle to Search layouts provide a fresh look compared to what we currently have. The variant circulated on Telegram showcases a somewhat bolder redesign, though it isn’t entirely transformative. In contrast, the alternative seems merely like minor adjustments made by Google. According to Android Authority, this latter configuration could potentially roll out since it appeared on their Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Nevertheless, as this seems to be a trial run, Google might ultimately revert to the initial layout. Similar to numerous businesses, Google periodically experiments with fresh designs and interfaces. These trials enable Google to pinpoint the most effective configuration for enhancing user interaction. The present iteration functions adequately; however, perhaps this overhaul foreshadows certain modifications associated with the upcoming Material Design 3 Expressive that Google is expected to introduce during I/O 2025 next month.
