New SparkNC Lab Set to Launch at Center for Applied Sciences and Technology

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Students will be able to get a high-tech, hands-on learning experience at the New SparkNC Lab opening at the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology (COAST), according to Brunswick County Schools (BCS).

The BCS states that the collaboration with SparkNC will introduce “an advanced, student-focused approach to education in Brunswick County.”

According to the district, the new lab at the COAST will let students explore careers in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software development, data science, and more.

This goes beyond merely acquiring new equipment or developing new programs,” explained Dr. Dale Cole, BCS Superintendent. “The first objective under our district’s strategic plan, Goal 1.2, aims to ensure that every student within the BCS system will have exposure to practical, job-related educational activities linking classroom knowledge with real-life experience by the year 2029.

Officials with SparkNC say they are thrilled to partner with BCS.

This collaboration marks a significant advancement toward expanding SparkNC’s mission of equipping each student in North Carolina with the competencies required for success in technologically oriented professions,” stated SparkNC. “We at SparkNC are dedicated to offering dynamic educational experiences that align with current industry needs, connect students to advanced professional networks, and foster robust skill sets along with responsible technological practices.

The new lab at the COAST will open in the 2025-2026 school year.
