JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) – The introduction of new WIC card technology may enhance the experience for Missouri moms.
As per the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, a new WIC card went live on May 1, enabling participants to use their food benefits at approved WIC stores.
WIC
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children offers high-quality nutritional guidance, promotes and supports breastfeeding, supplies healthy food options, and connects individuals with healthcare services.
The MDHSS says the
new card
shifts the Missouri WIC program to real-time processing. This offers numerous benefits for participants, WIC local agencies, and approved WIC stores.
Some advantages of the new card technology include:
- Participants can monitor their food benefits instantly either by reaching out to their local WIC agency or through the use of the WICShopper application. This facilitates greater access for individuals to obtain nutritious foods for their households and reduces the necessity of visiting the WIC clinic just to receive food benefits updates.
- A simpler procedure for WIC local agencies to provide, replace, or modify food benefits throughout the month, offering greater adaptability to address participants’ requirements.
- Automated handling of WIC transactions for approved WIC retailers enables quicker daily reimbursements, giving these retailers additional opportunities to aid WIC participants within their stores.
To assist participants in grasping the details of the WIC program and utilizing their new cards, a YouTube series has been made available.
